Description
During Victorian times, it was customary to place a silver or silverplated plaque or plate that was engraved with the name, dates of birth and death of the person being buried. Many times, these were removed prior to burial and kept by the family as a keepsake. The one being offered in this listing is unusual in that it is surrounded by a frame that is silk wrapped and has metal corner ornaments. The silverplated plaque itself is simply engraved Mother. It came from Vermont, probably dating to 1850s to 1890s. It was purchased at an auction by the dealer from whom I purchased it.
Condition:
There is plate wear as seen in the photos. It is currently separated from the frame and needs a few tiny nails to reattach it. The frame itself is in good shape; some of the thread that was wrapped around it has come off and the metal corner ornaments have finish wear. Please see the photos and feel free to ask any questions.
Size:
The plate is 4" x 7 3/4"; frame size is 5" x 8 3/4".
