NASCAR regular season and playoff points standings after Denny Hamlin deductions

Three-time Daytona 500 winner Danny Hamlin has been hit with a devastating penalty as the NASCAR Cup Series regular season winds down. His penalty will dramatically change both the regular and playoff points standings. 
What happened to Hamlin? He and his Joe Gibbs Racing team were hit with an L-2 violation from his victory at Bristol Motor Speedway in March. Hamlin’s team failed to meet NASCAR’s engine seal and inspection requirements 
What are the penalties? Hamiin will lose 75 drive and owner points for the regular season points, a drop that will see him plummet from third to sixth and all but end his chances of winning the Regular Season Championship.
Hamlin has also suffered a 10-point penalty in the playoff picture, seeing his place in the standings slide from second to sixth. 
His team was also fined $1000 and his victory at Bristol will no longer count for the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs. He is still locked into the postseason.
Hamlin and the No. 11 car was sat with 786 points in the regular season table, behind only Tyler Reddick and Chase Elliott. Now, he will sit sixth behind Kyle Larson, Ryan Blaney, and Williams Byron. 
In the playoff picture, Hamlin sat second before the penalty behind only Larson. Now, Christopher Bell, Reddick, Byron, and Blaney will all jump him. 
Hamlin, locked into a postseason spot, will have further opportunities to secure playoff points. He has two more regular season races: one at Daytona International Speedway, and one at Darlington Raceway. 
NASCAR released an official statement regarding Hamlin’s deduction: “Each race-winning engine must be inspected by NASCAR once the race team determines that its life cycle is complete.”

“In this instance, prior to presenting the engine to NASCAR for inspection, Toyota Racing Development disassembled and rebuilt the #11’s Bristol-winning race engine.”
Toyota Racing apologized on behalf of their star driver: “As the engine builder for our partner NASCAR Cup Series teams, TRD is solely responsible for the handling and disposition of all our engines pre- and post-race,” it said.
“We have reviewed our processes and have implemented several additional steps to ensure that this never happens again…. TRD takes full responsibility for this grievous mistake, and we apologize to Denny, Chris, Coach Gibbs, the entire JGR organization, NASCAR and our fans.”
